Australian sparkling wines such as moscato have seen a surge in demand, with sales doubling to more than $30 million, according to Wine Australia. The growth was driven by increased interest from primarily the U.S., China and Japan, the agency reported. Those 3 countries accounted for the bulk of sales. The sales growth has led to more than a 10 percent jump in overall wine exports for the year.
The total value of Australian wine exports increased by $201 million to $2.3 billion, the growth is primarily attributed to increased sales to the U.S. and China. Exports to the U.S. accounted for $651 million, reaching the highest value in 5 years. Continuing industry trends, premium wine saw the best increases.
