China has surpassed both the US and UK to become Chile’s biggest wine export market, according to Wines of Chile’s 2016 sales report. Chile exported $195 million of wine to China last year, compared to an export value of $183 million to the US and $148 million to the UK, ranked 2nd and 3rd respectively.
China has also become the largest export market for Australian wines. Australian wines holds the second largest market share behind only French wines.
Each of the 5 top producing wine countries (France, Australia, Chile, Spain and Italy) all reported increases in export value and volume in 2016. Italy showed the largest growth, with just under 40 percent increase in export value compared to 2015.
