Wine packaging has not changed drastically over the last few decades, but as technology and culture begins to influence the alcohol industry on a greater level the wine industry is starting to think outside the box.
New trends, mass-market appeal, eco-conscious packaging trends, social media and an increasing outreach to younger and cross-cultural demographics have all played a role in the thinking of traditional wine packaging. The thought of wine being sold in a box, similar to coconut water, or even single-serving cans was outrageous just 10 years ago but has begun to catch on and gain appeal. Wine companies are trying to capitalize on growing demand for alternative packaging and industry experts say the trend is not going away anytime soon. Industry experts even have new terms to describe the trend – “beerification” and “youthification”.
