The IWSR recently released the 2017-2021 Forecast, which has determined the US to be the largest alcohol market on the planet. While beer sales are expected to decrease, certain wine and spirits categories are expected to continue to grow. These categories include sparkling wine, tequila, Cognac, and US whiskey. Responsibility for growth in these categories falls on “the uptick of craft and premium products; the increase in popularity of sipping tequila on-premise; innovation from small distilleries continue to spur consumer interest in US whiskey; innovation in Cognac is expanding the consumer base; and sparkling wines are no longer just for special occasions.” Business is looking good for wine and spirits players, particularly craft spirits.
