Japanese sake exports continue to rise for the 7th consecutive year thanks to a global boom in the country’s cuisine. The exports have been driven by the growing popularity of Japanese restaurants abroad and specifically sushi restaurants, as sake pairs perfectly with sushi. Rice wine has become a much more important segment in Japan’s agricultural exports. The value of Japan’s sake exports rose 10% in 2016 to just over $137 million.
