“There are moments in life in which you know immediately that you have found a jewel. And Monkey 47 is a jewel, perfectly matching the rising worldwide demand for craft gin with strong local roots,” – Pernod chief Alexandre Ricard.
Since its inception in Germany in 2010, Monkey 47 has had a strong track record. Black Forest Distillers, the company behind the brand Monkey 47, has received a majority stake from Pernod Ricard, one of the world’s largest wine and spirits suppliers. The gin is produced in the Black Forest part of Germany with a retail shelf price of $45 for a 350 ml bottle.
Sidney Frank oversaw US importing for the brand since 2014. With the recent changes in importing structure at Sidney Frank, opportunity may have risen for Pernod to step in. Pernod’s CEO explains, “Since 2011 we have admired the development of Monkey 47 and we are pleased to be able to shape the future of that fantastic brand together with our partner… perfectly matching the rising worldwide demand for craft gin with strong local roots”.
