As the trend towards premium brands continues U.S. wine exports are down roughly 15 percent by volume but were up over 8 percent by value, according to the latest Rabobank quarterly wine report. Both bottle and bulk wine exports saw an equal drop in volume, led primarily by reduced sales to the EU.
At the same time imports continue to steadily grow, with U.S. wine import volumes increasing by 2 percent and value up a solid 6 percent in Q1 of 2017. Italian imports were up 3 percent, led by a 10 percent jump in Prosecco. The largest grower was imports from France, up 12 percent by volume and 14 percent by value.
