“How can we better provide sales to the consumer?… I’m open to every idea. I’m willing to sit down with everybody,” states State Rep. Scott DeLano
Looking for Wine is leading the grassroots effort to get wine approved in Mississippi grocery stores. One of their lobbyists, Camille Young, is fighting the change with support from big box retailers such as Wal-Mart and Kroger.
As the law currently stands, a person can only own one liquor store. If the law is amended, large retailers, such as Kroger and Wal-Mart, will be able to have a stronger hold on the marketplace. Young sees this as an “us versus them” situation.
State Rep. DeLano introduced a bill to allow stronger wine in grocery stores to support consumers.
